"NECK PAIN" A SILENT KILLER 2

Recently, it was in the news that tiger woods, the worlds no 1 golfer has recurring neck pain that forced his withdrawal from the players championship. The game he plays must have predisposed him to acute episodes of neck pain for quite some time and probably exacerbated by the car accident he had in November 2009, following his hasty thanksgiving night exit from his own driveway.

Woods backed his SUV into a fire hydrant and rammed a tree with resultant sore neck, leaving him dazed and requiring treatment at a nearby emergency clinic.

Neck pain can be caused by injury, stress, or by other health problems including some that may have serious consequences. Certain events, such as motor accident can affect the neck seriously.

Most post-traumatic neck pain symptom resulting from motor accident is known as whiplash injury. Pain resulting from such could occur to a person in a vehicle, whose vehicle is rammed from behind.

This event would cause the violent backward movement of the neck. The victim may complain of severe pain in the neck. He may have no control of both hands and legs, sensations also might be lost. Taking road accident precautions like the wearing of seat belts may prevent neck injury.

Certain occupation could easily make the neck susceptible to pain. Most neck pain result from complex relationship between individuals and workplace risk factors.

No prevention strategies have been discovered to reduce the incidence of neck pain among workers. Specific injuries that may occur in workplaces include: motor accident, falling from a height, hitting one’s head on a hard surface such as a wall.

Occupation that requires repetitive use of the shoulders and hands such as machine operators, carpenters, golfers, etc are more likely to develop neck pain.

In order to understand your symptoms and treatment choices, you must start with some understanding of the general anatomy of your spine and neck. This includes becoming familiar with the various parts that make up the neck.

You should have a general understanding of the function of these parts, how they work together. The more you know the more you will be able to talk with your doctor in words that will help them better understand your specific problem. It will also help you understand what they are telling you about your particular problem.
